Angelo Gemignani, Ph.D., M.D., is a psychiatrist and doctor in psychology. Currently as full professor of Biological Psychology and Psychophysiology at the University of Pisa, he holds the position of: 1) Director of the University Department of “Surgical, Medical, Molecular and Critical Area”; 2) Director of the Clinical Psychology Unit of the University Hospital of Pisa; 3) Director of the 1st level Master's Degree in "Neuroscience, Mindfulness and Contemplative Practices", in collaboration with the "Lama Tsongkhapa" Buddhist Institute of Pomaia (Pisa); 4) is a member of the Academic Senate.
His research is mainly oriented towards the study of the psychophysiological mechanisms of sleep, consciousness, acute and chronic discomfort and distressing emotional states. He is the author of more than 200 articles in international scientific journals and P.I. of numerous national and international projects. His current scientific focus is mainly aimed at the study of the psychobiological correlates of meditative techniques and their effects on different levels of consciousness. Thanks to his publications and research experiences, Prof. Gemignani can be considered a specialist in sleep, consciousness, stress and emotions.
